Equipment Selection

What style of AC is best for you?

Back in the early in 1900’s, Henry Ford once remarked that customers could have their model T in any color they wanted – as long as it was black. It was around that time that the Air Conditioning industry was ramping up and it was largely the same way. Air Conditioners were all single stage machines – meaning they only had one speed, 100%. Energy was cheap, and the government had no standards for efficiency. I would also like to think that having any AC (as poorly as it may have been) was such a step up that people wouldn’t have complained. Much has changed in the last 100 years and the HVAC industry has changed too. Today we still have single stage units (for now) as well as two stage and variable stage units. If you currently have a single stage AC and you are happy with the comfort it provides and the energy consumption, then a single stage AC may be the right choice for you. However, if you find you’re existing system lacking in comfort/cost (or both) maybe it’s time to consider one of the newer options.
